Depression

1147331690Persistent depression impacts your mind and body.

That feeling has gone on for a while now. And it is beginning to feel like more than just a “low day.”

If you’re suffering from depression, you might find that you can’t enjoy the things you used to love and can’t get motivated.

You might also notice that your brain feels foggy, you have difficulty concentrating, your energy is low, and you feel sad and down for extended periods.

You feel so down that you’re sleeping a lot and can’t get out of bed in the morning. Or you might have the opposite problem and not be able to sleep at all.

Hiding how you feel makes matters worse.

Anxiety and depression go hand in hand. You’re so stressed out, yet you can’t get things done and feel guilty or worthless because you can’t seem to accomplish anything anymore. This vicious cycle of anxiety and depression won’t let up. You feel locked in it.

You try your best to put on a happy face. Although you have a great sense of humor, it is a double-edged sword because people think you’re okay and have it all together. But the laughter hid something – much more profound.

When people ask how you are doing, you say, “I’m good, can’t complain!” But your throat barely opens enough for you to squeak out the words. Even talking about it – or thinking about talking about it – can feel overwhelming, heavy, and shameful. And if you did let them know how you feel, you may have a total public breakdown.

You’ve kept so much sadness in for so long. If people knew you were so sad, what would they think? Would they judge you? Would they stick around?

You want to get up and not dread the day ahead. You want your relationships to feel deeper – to connect more with your friends, family, or significant other.

Therapy can offer up those possibilities. Therapy is your sacred hour to say what you need to say precisely. You can vent, cry, and complain without judgment or interruption. All parts of you are welcome in therapy, including your sad parts.

Together, we will work to uncover the roots of your depression and allow you to live a fuller and happier life.
