EMDR + Sensorimotor Psychotherapy

1792419640You feel “off” physically.

That achiness, tension, or numbness is constant.

When you experience sadness, anger, or disappointment, you feel it, almost literally, in your bones. You know deep inside that your body is carrying “stuff,” but you may not know what that “stuff” is.

Perhaps it’s recurring flashbacks, nightmares, and intrusive thoughts.

I’ve found it’s helpful for my clients to know…

Your brain and your body have spent many years adapting to stressors and building up ways to protect you.

As we get older, our situations tend to change. We usually have more control over our environments and an ability to cope that we didn’t have when we were younger.

But in times of stress, your body might not know the difference. It may go into its default mode of trying to protect you from danger, even when that danger isn’t there anymore.

This perceived danger can feel very apparent – like feeling activated by something that reminds you of a prior trauma like a car accident. Or it could be more subtle, like feeling shame, not good enough, or “too much” in a situation.

1721513803That’s where I can help.

With the mind-body connection, we can tap into feelings and experiences that don’t always have words but impact us. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy will help you understand the history of big feelings like sadness, fear, anger, and shame.

We’ll learn to understand the behaviors that you used to protect yourself from feeling more than you could handle. You did your best growing up, knowing what you knew.

Therapy offers a unique opportunity to pump the breaks and look at yourself with compassion for all that you’ve done and have dealt with.

For a lasting change, let’s try something new.

EMDR techniques and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy will help you heal by re-experiencing, in a safe environment with me, the physical sensations associated with events that were too overwhelming to process. This allows us to treat your whole self. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation to treat distressing events, anxiety, depression, phobias, obsessive thinking, addictive behavior.
